Richmond Street Park Games

The next running of this event is

1.00 pm - 3.00 pm on Sunday 5 May 2018

In 2012 local residents in Hartshill and Harpfields had huge fun staging a series of events, sporting and otherwise, over the spring and summer that were inspired by the London Olympics. Well, so successful and enjoyable were the events that they did it all again in 2013 and 2014, always with a few added extras.

These community games, which are open to the public of all ages and free of charge, took place at Richmond Street Park, usually in May, where we held a series of activities entitled ‘Track and Field Sports’, organised by HAHO, in conjunction with Sporting Ventures CIC (add link to website).

This event had versions of many of the Olympics running and throwing events, such as long jump, triple jump, frisbee discus, shot putt (cricket ball), rubber javelins, welly wanging; a shooting event, aiming bean bags at targets in the style of a coconut shy; sprints and relays; pentathlon and similar.

Everyone was welcome to come along to these events, and have a go for gold - or silver or bronze, as all participants receive a specially designed commemorative certificate, and there are medals awarded for all competitions.

The central idea of our Community Events is to build on the variety of things we did over the last two years, and to involve people of all age groups so that this is a genuinely community-wide project. We see these games as something that will appeal to people of all ages and backgrounds and will be a real fun afternoon for all involved. In all three years that the event has run about 150 - 200 people have attended on each occasion.
